strange! That is hardly what it means, however. For God to remember is not to recollect accidentally, but to take action deliberately on what is recalled. Or as Childs (1962: 34) has put it, “God’s remembering always implies his movement toward the object of his memory.… The essence of God’s remembering lies in his acting toward someone because of a previous commitment.” This truth suggests that God saves his people not because he dislikes slavery, but because of his prior covenant with this people.
